REEVA LEONA WORTEL

Driven by an innate curiosity to develop the technique of portraiture beyond its traditional approach, interdisciplinary artist Reeva Wortel creates narrative portrait-based projects that combine interview, social commentary, performance, and large-scale installation. Over the last decade Wortel has worked in communities as a social justice advocate, arts educator and artist. She has evolved and honed a technique that works to narrate through recorded interviews and life-size portraiture the stories of individuals that are inherent to this era. Wortel has been the recipient of several grants as a muralist, choreographer, theater maker, and installation artist. She has exhibited her work throughout the U.S. as well as internationally in New Zealand and Amsterdam.
